Middle School Students Explore Latinx and Hispanic Pioneers of Change
Students in the Student DEIG Steering Committee (SDSC) helped plan the first Heritage Month assembly in the Middle School Big Room last week, creating an interactive way to engage with Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. This year’s observance included an interactive quiz competition and poster-making challenge to reflect on this year’s theme—Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.
Before the collaborative component, members of the SDSC committee presented a host of Latinx and Hispanic changemakers across industries. Among those featured were singer Shakira, soccer players Marta de Silva and Lionel Messi, and Boston Red Sox player Luis Tiant.
With more Heritage Month celebrations on the horizon—like the LGBTQ+ History Month assembly later in the month—community activity blocks (CAB) are sure to be both educational and collaborative for homerooms.Â
