Middle Schoolers Bring Classic Book to Life in Spring Play

By Hannah Garcia May 13, 2026

This year’s cohort of 8th-graders in the spring Dramafest class performed an engaging production of The Outsiders at this year’s METG Festival. Based on the classic book by S. E. Hinton, the show follows a teenage Ponyboy and his gang as they grapple with the rival gang of affluent teens across the tracks.

The story follows Ponyboy (Michael Noonan ’30), a smart teen who is a part of the Greaser gang with his friends Johnny (Christopher Menjivar ’30) and Dallas (Oliver Schneider ’30). Together, they navigate the prejudices and conflicts of social status with the gang of wealthy teens from the other side of town, the Socs. In a gritty story about sacrifice and stereotypes, the entire cast delivered a brilliant 45-minute show.

With heartfelt performances from the whole cast, the performance had the audience raucously applauding their efforts. Congrats to the whole cast and crew, and director Christa Crewdson, on a special show.
