Fairytale Mysteries Afoot in 5th-Grade Play

By Hannah Garcia March 5, 2025

Something wicked this way comes in the annual 5th-grade plays at the Lower School in the 5M and 5DR combined production of “Rumplestiltskin Private Eye.” With appearances from a host of fairytale characters, the humorous take on the classic cast was full of mystery and one-line zingers to delight the audience.

In yet another successful show directed by Jenny Lifson, a group of Rumpelstiltskin and two ugly ducklings–or swans as they often remind the audience throughout the play–travel around trying to solve the theft of the bear’s porridge. Soon, the plot–unlike the porridge– thickens as more crimes occur in the fairytale town.

While the gang of investigators eventually catches the culprit, the ensuing search and questioning of various characters create a fun and lovable show for the ages.

Thank you to Jenny Lifson, the BB&N facilities and tech staff, and the costume designer Liza Ulrich for making this production possible.
