Eighth Graders Explore New Faith Offering in Annual Traditions Unit

By Hannah Garcia February 3, 2025

Now in its eighth year at BB&N, the Faith Traditions unit at the Middle School encourages students to explore religions and spiritual practices found in the community. This year, in addition to the usual offerings of Buddhism, Christianity/Catholicism, Humanism, Islam, and Judaism, some 8th graders studied Sihkism and visited their place of worship thanks to connections with a BB&N family.

During the second week of the unit, students traveled to local places of worship after receiving introductions from faith leaders during lunches. BB&N returned to last year’s houses of worship around the city, including Saint Celilia’s Parish, Temple Beth Zion, and the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center. Thanks to Prashant Singh P’26, ’30, students learned about the Sihk faith and visited a Gurdwara in Westborough.

To conclude the unit, students will create artwork based on their knowledge from the previous weeks. Thank you to Nathalia Jimenez, Tiffany Rice, Christa Crewdson, Youseff Talha, Sasha Bergmann, and Christina Dominique-Pierre for their hard work in making this special unit come to fruition.
