Annual giving and impact report

50 Years of Impact

Our celebration of 50 years of impact is a poignant reminder of the remarkable partnership between BB&N and the community of donors who continue to invest in the school’s mission and future. Every gift, no matter the size, directly supports BB&N’s greatest assets: exceptional students, faculty, and staff; academic excellence and innovation; and a diverse, caring community.

A Message from
Dr. Jennifer Price,
Head of School

Over the past year, we have been celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the merger of Browne & Nichols and the Buckingham School to create our beloved Buckingham Browne & Nichols. Over the past 50 years our school has changed in many ways, yet at our core we remain true to our commitment to our motto: Honor ~ Scholarship ~ Kindness. Our commitment to develop lifelong learners who lead with kindness, curiosity, and integrity would not be possible without the generosity of alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends. The support of our donors is one of the many reasons why BB&N continues to thrive...”

$10.9M

Members of the BB&N community contributed nearly $11 million in support for The BB&N Fund, capital, endowment and other special fundraising initiatives in 2023–2024.

$3.5M

Members of the BB&N community contributed more than $3.5 million in support of The BB&N Fund in 2023–2024.

$6.544M

Class of 2024 parents contributed more than $6.5 million to BB&N in support of The BB&N Fund and campaign objectives, to establish the Class of 2024 Financial Aid Fund and name the Class of 2024 Connector.

$103M

The market value of the BB&N endowment topped $100 million as of June 30, 2024, thanks to additional gifts from generous donors and sound management by the Board of Trustees.

840

BB&N honored 840 alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends as members of the Knights’ Circle, which recognizes five or more years of consecutive giving in support of the school’s annual, capital, and endowment programs.

$132,184

More than $132,000 was received from 464 BB&N families as part of the Parents’ Association Holiday Faculty and Staff Appreciation Fund. Their generosity enabled the school to provide a holiday gift of $410 to every full-time faculty and staff member.

Sustained Commitment to
Financial Aid Expands Access
and Affordability

A robust commitment to financial aid has been one of BB&N’s core values since its founding. The generosity of our community of alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends, through both The BB&N Fund and endowed funds, enables BB&N to achieve our financial aid goals to: expand access to underrepresented and historically excluded communities and promote diversity in all its forms; lower the affordability barrier for students and families that are a strong fit to the school and aligned with our community’s values.

In 2023–2024, nearly $10.9 million was provided in tuition grants to 251 students, with more than $250,000 in additional funding for non-tuition expenses (including trips, transportation, technology, and tutoring) to enable financial aid students to get the full BB&N experience.

The generosity of financial aid donors has allowed so many deserving students to achieve their dream of attending school at BB&N. Over the years, I have witnessed the change in how financial aid has been dispersed and how it has been so impactful. The Lower School has benefited greatly from having more financial aid students as it brings an eclectic group of families into the community at an earlier stage in their academic career.

If we are dedicated to building an intellectual environment that thrives with regard to curiosity, inquiry, and critical thinking, it is our duty to make sure we are sharing a variety of perspectives in our classrooms. Agreement is not necessary, but a willingness to see the world from eyes and experiences different from our own is essential to this work.

BB&N’S financial aid office takes pride in building robust relationships with all families who recieve uition assistance, creating a true partnership that is responsive to students’ changing needs throughout their time at the school.

Innovation Grants Continue to Spark Creativity Among Faculty and Students

After extensive review during the fall 2023 application cycle, the Teaching and Learning Office awarded Innovation Grants (I-Grants) to a number of faculty and students during the Spring 2023 grant cycle. Some projects were completed last year while others are in various stages of development or may require additional resources to fully implement.

For example, KnightConnect is an online platform that promotes professional inclusivity and serves as a one-stop-shop opportunity hub for all Upper School students. Through KnightConnect, students can find paid internships, community service, and research opportunities without needing to search the internet or rely on family connections, and exposing students to resources outside of the classroom.

Summer Curriculum Work
Crosses Campuses and
Disciplines

During the months following graduation, 84 faculty participated in summer curriculum work, either individually or in collaboration with their colleagues,
in some cases across campuses and disciplines. The Teaching and Learning Office funded this work through 44 grants totalling $82,000. In late August, the Fourth Annual Summer Curriculum Grant Share—a cross-campus virtual gathering of BB&N educators to showcase their summer curriculum work—offered invaluable opportunities for faculty and staff of different departments, disciplines, and campuses to establish through-lines across each others’ work.

I continue to be amazed at the dedication and passion of our faculty across campuses and disciplines, their commitment to their craft, and particularly the collaboration across disciplines.

Examining our work with identity consciousness is an ongoing process and having the opportunity to share with colleagues provokes really helpful wonderings.

When we give ourselves time to really reflect on our work, the possibilities for innovaitonr really open up.

“[I was impressed by] true passion and commitment to lifelong learning, the intentionality through vulnerability to reflection, and examining curriculum with students at the center.
