It was the first time in two years that the BB&N girls’ varsity ice hockey team laced up the skates for an official contest in early December at home as the faced off against Dexter Southfield in a hard-fought match. The game was exciting, fast, and physical and would be an indicator of how the 2021-22 season would play out. The Knights fell 1-0 in overtime, but the effort and passion were evident. The theme of hard work and resiliency would be the mantra for this year’s club and after beginning the season with a 2-7-2 record, the team found itself securing its first Large School New England Championship in school history with a 4-1 victory over Deerfield Academy. “This senior class set the tone from day 1,” said head coach, Ed Bourget. “The six seniors led by example and demonstrated kindness towards all of their teammates, while maintaining an elite skill set on the ice powered by high intensity focus throughout the season.” The senior class of Gali Levy, Sophia Kennedy, Ashley Hallice, Sydney Bernstein, Hillary Galle, and Anna McGrath will always be remembered for securing the first championship in school history. Levy will move on to play at Ohio State and Kennedy will travel up to Maine and represent Colby College on the ice for the next four years. The season culminated with a New England Championship and all who have laced them up for this program can rest east knowing they’re finally champs.
