Freshman Year
Sophomore Year
September/October
- Strengthen vocabulary by reading & study hard!
- Parents attend College Counseling night.
- Check course selection with advisor.
- Get involved in co-curriculars or extra-curriculars.
- PSAT (Scores received in December)
March
- Sign up for June SAT subject tests if appropriate.
- Course selection--choose your courses carefully! Questions? Talk to your advisor!
June
- Make your summer meaningful.
Junior Year
September/October
- Gather artwork for portfolio (if applicable).
- PSAT (Scores received in December)
- Parents attend Junior Parent College Counseling Night.
- Register for February and March standardized tests.
December/January/February
- Student assigned a college counselor and given access to web-based programs.
- Attend College Workshop for juniors and parents.
- College Counseling Questionnaires due.
- Individual & family appointments may be scheduled after completion of questionnaires.
- Take your First ACT (Retest as needed through spring of junior year and fall of senior year- see testing plan).
March
- College counseling appointments continue.
- Visit colleges during Spring Break.
- Take your first SAT (Retest as needed spring & fall).
April
- College counseling appointments continue.
- Attend BISCCA College Fair.
May
- College counseling appointments continue.
- AP exams
- Ask teachers to write recommendations.
June
- Great month to visit colleges.
- Attend Summer Send-Off.
July & August
- Transcript Verification form mailed home.
- Visit colleges! Students are expected to do the majority of their college visiting by the time they return to school in the fall.
Senior Year
September
- College Counseling appointments continue.
- Meet with college representatives visiting BB&N.
- Meet with college counselor to narrow list.
October/November
- Visit or re-visit colleges during long weekends.
- Meet with college representatives visiting BB&N.
- Work on applications. Be aware of deadlines & requirements.
- Turn in school forms to College Counseling office
- Wrap-up visits
- Submit applications for early deadlines.
December
- Pay attention to regular decision deadlines and requirements.
- Senior Work Week: Complete remaining applications.
- Many early college decisions received this month.
January
- Most regular decisions applications are due in January.
March/April
- All admission decisions received.
- Meet with your college counselor to discuss options.
- Notify those colleges that you are no longer considering.
May & June
- May 1 – deadline to make your single enrollment deposit.
- Notify each college to which you applied of your final choice.
- Speak to your college counselor about wait lists.
- Graduation
