Middle School Drama Festival Entry Wins Gold and Individual Accolades
Sometimes the monsters aren’t the ones you expect in this year’s entry to the 2024 METG Drama Festival. Directed by Middle School drama teacher Christa Crewdson, eighth-graders performed a haunting short adaption of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness that earned them first place at Nauset Middle School.
The show follows 13-year-old Conor O’Malley (Christian Chow) as he navigates his mother’s (Katja Rankel) cancer diagnosis and treatment. Outside of his house is an ancient yew tree (Eliot Saad) that becomes a monster at 12:07 a.m. and encourages the young boy to face his fears and tell his true story.
Headlined by hearth-wrenching performances and imaginative dance sequences by the nightmare ensemble, the BB&N drama department put on an impressive showing in front of local middle schools. For their extraordinary individual deliveries, Eliot Saad, Christain Chow, Katja Rankel, and Sam Richards all won awards.
Congratulations to the cast, crew, and director for retaining the gold at the METG Drama Festival.
