Humpty Dumpty is Missing in Fifth-Grade Play

By Hannah Garcia March 4, 2026

The annual fifth-grade play this year investigated the disappearance of Humpty Dumpty–the famous fairytale egg–in the play Humpty Dumpty is Missing. Directed by Jenny Lifson, the 5th-grade classes presented the case to their parents and peers.

In this tale, a group of private eye investigators interrogates characters such as Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and even the wall that the anthropomorphic egg fell off of to get to the bottom of the disappearance. With the help of a pair of assistants, the gang calls witnesses and suspects to their office to solve the mystery.

The investigators eventually discover that the culprit is the police chief, who was actually the ‘please chief,’ in a Humpty Dumpty costume. The characters put the chief back in his costume, and officially acknowledge that he is the ‘please’ chief of the town. The search and questioning of various characters, as well as the dramatic reveal at the end, make for a fun, lovable show for the ages.

Thank you to Jenny Lifson, the BB&N facilities and tech staff, and the costume designer Liza Ulrich for making this production possible.
