BB&N Speech and Debate Team Continues to Dominate
Established in 1937 at Browne and Nichols School, the BB&N debate team has a history of success in regional and world debate tournaments. This year alone, the squad earned four top-three finishes, including second place in the first tournament hosted at BB&N.
Coached by Upper School English teacher Talayah Hudson, the team travels to competitions as close as the Rivers School and as far as Bermuda. Last weekend, the group trekked to Loomis Chaffee and walked away with the third-place school award. Individual awards went to the 3rd-place Advanced 4-person team, which included David X. ’26, Gordon M. ’27, Justin H. ’27, and Salar S. ’26. The undefeated novice pair of David Z. ’28 and Rishaan C. ’29 placed fourth.
Notably, senior captain Salar won the Advanced Speaker competition and qualified for the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships 2026, held this year in Bristol, England. At a previous tournament at Choate, junior Anha J. ’27 also qualified to compete at worlds in April.
Congratulations to the whole team, Talayah Hudson, Salar, and Anha, for their prowess this season!
