BB&N offers three programs of study, each leading to full Massachusetts licensure and a Master’s in Education. Students are fully immersed in the Lower School classrooms under the tutelage of an experienced master teacher, who is responsible for a grade or a specific subject. By the end of the academic year, teachers-in-training have taught in virtually all homeroom disciplines (language arts, math, and social studies) and in two separate grade placements. They have also participated in curriculum design, created professional portfolios, joined in parent conferences and back-to-school nights, and written student assessments.

BB&N has partnered with ISTR at Penn, which enables aspiring and early-career teachers to receive a master’s degree in education while completing an intensive two-year teaching fellowship. With an innovative and comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for the independent schools’ unique settings, the program features intensive on-site sessions in combination with innovative and collaborative online learning. This program is designed for those working in Middle and Upper School levels and serves as a complement to our Lesley Residency program at the Lower School.

The Knight Corps is a cohort of Education Fellows interested in careers in education or other school-based roles. Education Fellows observe BB&N’s best teaching practices, learn from experienced faculty and administrators, and provide support throughout various areas of the school. Education Fellows engage in seminars and mentoring meetings throughout the year.
