Josh Funk Encourages Young Readers and Writers at the Lower School

By Hannah Garcia October 25, 2023

Author of children’s books Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast and My Pet Feet Josh Funk visited beginner, kindergarten, and 1st-grade students to share his unconventional journey to creating stories. Funk emphasized that anyone could become an author, and one of the best ways to do so is to read more!

By day, Funk is a software engineer, but by night and on the weekends, he pens creative stories, most notably about two fridge occupants Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast. Many BB&N students are fans of his books, and he explained that they too can write books someday. All they need is to know the alphabet–which all students exclaimed that they knew–an idea, and knowledge of how to write a story, something which can be learned through reading.

Students left the event with a reading spark and a greater knowledge of food in the fridge than when they entered the Pokross room.

A special thanks to B-1 librarian Lynda Dugas for making this visit possible!
