The two new turf fields are used for practices and home games by Middle and Upper School football, soccer, softball and lacrosse. There is parking for spectators from home and visiting teams. The Grove Street Campus is also used for community events such as Homecoming, Friday Knight Lights, Middle School Field Day, the Upper School Softball Homerun Derby, and Alumni Soccer game.
Through a partnership with the City of Watertown, BB&N also has the use of two adjacent fields at Watertown’s Filippello Park during the school year, and the city is able to use BB&N’s Grove Street fields on weekends and during the summer.
The addition of the Grove Street fields has made it possible for BB&N students to practice on campus and be home in time for dinner with their families.
Jay Kulkarni ‘23 came to BB&N as a sophomore and found his place to shine in the classroom and on the football field. A captain of the team his senior year, Jay is currently playing football at Bowdoin College. Jay’s transformative experience was in large part due to Head Football Coach and Science Teacher, Mike Willey, and prompted his family to endow theKulkarni-Kewalramani Head Coach of Football position in his honor.
“I’m humbled by the generosity of the Kulkarni family and their commitment not just to BB&N but to the football program. We have a tradition where the seniors on the team talk about what the experience of playing football at BB&N means to them and many of them talk about how impactful it was to their life, both in and out of school,” Mike Willey said. “Football can be important for many reasons, not just the game piece, but the bonds with teammates are really powerful. My family and I can’t thank the Kulkarni family enough, personally and professionally.”
