“The thing that has impacted me most at BB&N is my experience studying Spanish. My mom is originally from Argentina and I grew up speaking Spanish at home, though I lost touch with the language and Latin American culture at a young age. Spanish courses at BB&N, in particular my AP last year, have given me a new sense of true passion and appreciation for the language, and exposed me to the culture that I never knew I could regain. Additionally, my exchange trip to Spain let me immerse myself and fall in love with the language and culture even more. These experiences truly inspire me to continue exploring, discovering, and seeking out ways to further this pursuit.”

“My favorite feature of BB&N is the Harkness method implemented in the History and English departments, cultivating spaces for discussion-based and collaborative learning. My history teacher during my freshman and sophomore years has had the biggest influence on me thus far at BB&N. The knowledge that she shares with us, both in and out of history class, is so impactful and gives me the confidence to do well on challenging assignments.”

“The field hockey team has definitely impacted my experience at BB&N the most. Joining the team as a sophomore, I was worried about fitting in, but I found a team of people comprised of so many different friend groups that come together to leave it all out on the field. Everyone on the team genuinely cares for each other, and we all push each other to persevere when our games become challenging. I have been able to use what I learned through the team not only on the field, but also in my classes and my friendships.”

“My favorite thing about BB&N is the community, everyone around you is always there for support and to have a good time… The girls’ crew team has definitely had the biggest impact on me at BB&N. This is because the boathouse is a space where any worries can be forgotten and all the girls are just there to work hard and enjoy our time. It’s a great atmosphere that I look forward to being around every day.”

The opportunities that you are given at BB&N are unmatched. There are plenty of international trips for you to go on, and there are tons of competitions and clubs to take part in… I went on a Round Square trip in my Sophomore year, and I met so many new people. Not only did I become friends with a group of kids at BB&N that I had never talked to before, but I met people from all around the world who have helped shape the way I am today.”

“Coming from a public school, the only time I could talk to my teachers was during class time. At BB&N, I can reach out to my teachers whenever I need to. They will even come into school an hour early just to make sure that I am in the best position to be successful. “What sets BB&N apart is that it challenges you academically, but also gives you the flexibility to explore sports, arts, and clubs at a high level. That balance makes it easier to take risks and grow in more than just one area. Additionally, teachers and advisors really know you, which makes you feel very supported and empowered to shape your own BB&N experience… Some advice I would give to prospective students and families is not to try to fit into a mold. BB&N isn’t looking for one type of student, but rather wants people who are genuinely curious and willing to explore what excites them. My peers come from a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but one thing we all share in common is the drive to learn and explore.”

I’ve become better at speaking up when I need additional support or speaking out when I have ideas in shared spaces.”

Clubs & Activities: My favorite activities at BB&N are JV Girls Hockey, being part of the fall play crew, and the “Fun & Games” on special schedule days/occasions.
