Areas to Support
The strength of a BB&N education lies in the combination of countless individuals, experiences, traditions, and opportunities, each of which is made possible by the generosity of our many donors. Here is a selection of the funds and areas that benefit from this support.
Faculty Support & Academic Programs
Learning at BB&N is challenging, invigorating, vibrant, and creative. Our teachers engage students in a lively learning community, in and out of the classroom. These lessons last a lifetime.
Designating your gift to faculty support and academic programs helps ensure the strength of the BB&N experience. Such gifts support:
- Faculty salaries
- Professional development for teachers at conferences and workshops and through summer travel grants.
- Visits from special guests, such as a computer scientist who designs mobile apps and novelist Julia Alvarez, whose visits enrich students and teachers.
- Development of new curricula and ways of teaching
In recognition of the lifelong impact of a BB&N education, each year hundreds of donors make a gift in honor or in memory of a faculty member who has had a lasting impression on a student experience.
BB&N has a proud history of helping families make an independent school education possible for their children. Gifts to financial aid allow us to enroll talented and qualified students regardless of their financial means.
Fundamentally, financial aid enriches the experience of every member of the BB&N community by bringing together students from many backgrounds and experiences, learners who will test each other’s assumptions, cultivate each other’s strengths, and open each other's minds.
23% : BB&N students who receive financial aid
$32,037 : average financial aid grant (2016-2017)
$7.9 million : financial aid budget for FY17 ($7.6 million in tuition support and $300,000 in supplemental support for books, computers, transportation, trips etc.)
Endowed funds, maintained in perpetuity, ensure the quality of BB&N from generation to generation. The principal of an endowment remains intact and a percentage of the accrued interest is used to support a specific initiative or program (for example, financial aid, faculty support, or athletics). An endowment fund can be created to support nearly any part of the BB&N experience. Click here for a list of endowment funds and the areas they support.
$71.6 million : value of endowment (as of 6/30/16)
6.4% : percent of BB&N's operating budget supported by endowment income

Thanks to the generosity of donors to BB&N’s Opening Minds Campaign, BB&N students have a wonderful stage as well as backstage production spaces for set construction, costume fabrication and storage, props storage, rehearsal and “green room” space. The theater also provides comfortable and accessible seating for nearly 200 patrons at our shows.
You have an opportunity to leave your mark on our theater program by naming a seat in our theater, while also providing crucial resources to enable the theater program to continue to flourish in the years to come.
