Graduation 2019 Information
Friday, June 7 at 10:00 am in the Etter Gymnasium, Nicholas Athletic Center
Graduation typically lasts 1½ to 1¾ hours.
There will be a light reception afterwards, but not a full meal. We hope that the timing will allow you to make family plans or restaurant reservations easily.
Guests & Seating: We ask you to limit your guest list to 8-10 people, although there will be room for some larger groups. (This number does not include your senior!) There are no tickets nor do we take names of your guests. Graduation is open seating.
Invitations/announcements: Each family will receive a formal invitation in the mail in early May. Ms. Gayman will have additional invitations that you can send to family and friends either as invitations or announcements. Let your child know how many you need (10 max) and have him or her pick them up in Ms. Gayman’s office.
Special circumstances: If you have members of your family who need special seating consideration or who need handicap parking, please call Samantha Zegarelli at 617-800-2733 (after May 1). Handicapped parking is limited. We recommend, if possible, dropping off those who need assistance and parking in the DCR lot.
Seniors: should be at the gym no later than 9:00 a.m. for the class photograph and to line up for the procession. We will not hold the picture for latecomers.
Dress: For Graduation, seniors may choose to wear any of the following:
1) White or ivory dress
2) White or ivory pantsuit
3) White dress pants with white dress shirt or blouse
4) dark blazer or dark suit jacket with white dress shirt, tie and dress pants
All of the above options should be accompanied by dress shoes (e.g. not sneakers, flip flops, etc.)
The Parent Reps, on behalf of all of the senior parents, will have flowers for each senior.
Parking: We strongly urge you to park across the river in the DCR lots. There will be no parking along Greenough Boulevard. School shuttles will be making continuous round trips from the lot on Soldiers’ Field Road (marked Lot 4 – opposite the WBZ tower) to the Nicholas Athletic Center beginning at 7:45 AM. After the ceremony, the return trips will begin. Carpooling, taxi cabs, Uber or Lyft are also good options on Graduation Day.
Photography: Pierre Chiha, the photographer who took the fall senior portraits, will take a picture of each student as s/he receives the diploma from Dr. Price. He will also take a class picture just before the class lines up for the Graduation procession and an individual photo when the seniors assemble in the tennis courts. The class picture will be taken promptly at 9:05 a.m. We will not be able to wait for late-comers. During the graduation exercises the area in front of the stage is reserved for official photographers. Parents are welcome to take pictures from the sides, but we ask that you do not position yourselves in front of the stage as it obstructs the paths of the seniors and slows the proceedings.
