Will Slotnick concluded his work at the Middle School last week with workshops with the 8th grade. He was with the 7th grade for a week in October.
All Middle School parents/grown-ups were invited to chat with Will at our November Wellness Gathering. Will spoke about current trends in vaping and marijuana. He mentioned this NBC article on recent studies on the impact of marijuana on teens and agreed with these Scholastic infographics on recent vaping trends. Here is a helpful “tip sheet” for talking about e-cigarettes with your children.Mindfulness as a technique is explored; here is a recent guide by the New York Times on Mindfulness for Children. There are more articles available on Will’s website here.
On November 29th, we had our annual evening of conversation for all 8th grade students and their parents/grown-ups (but typically several grown-ups come; even extended family sometimes!). The Wellness Evening expands the conversations Will has with students to a community format whereby students and grown-ups pondered together questions related to stressful experiences, supports, strategies. The intention of the evening is to ‘name to tame’ and create a space for the 8th grade to connect as a community around shared experiences of the challenges of adolescence, academics, etc. Will Slotnick will continue these conversations with your children throughout their Upper School years. We hope that these types of conversations continue at home. We’re all in this together.
