FRESHMAN YEAR • Strengthen vocabulary by reading. • Study hard, earn best grades possible. • Get involved in activities, during the summer, too. • Choose sophomore courses with care. • Sign up for June SAT subject tests in terminal courses if appropriate. October • PSAT (scores received in December)
January • Begin to think about and sign up for June SAT subject tests in some terminal courses if appropriate - i.e. sciences, some math. (www.collegeboard.com)
May & June • Course selection--choose your courses carefully! • SAT subject tests • Make your summer productive & register for tests.
JUNIOR YEAR October • Save your best graded papers, with teacher comments. • Gather artwork for portfolio (if applicable). • PSAT (scores received in December)

February • Registration deadline for March SAT.
March • Registration deadline for April ACT. • SAT • Registration deadline for the May SAT.
April • Seek out your guidance counselor. • Attend Boston Natl College Fair at the Bayside Expo. • ACT • Visit colleges during school vacation. • Registration deadline for June SAT.
May • Talk to two teachers about recommendations. • SAT • AP exams
June • SAT • Great month to visit colleges.
July & August • Request written materials from colleges you are exploring. • Work on a draft of the Common Application and essays. • Visit colleges!
SENIOR YEAR September • Update counselor on college list. • Select and ask two teachers to write recommendations. • Meet with college representatives. • Registration deadline for Oct SAT. • Registration deadline for Oct ACT. • Registration deadline for Nov SAT.
October • SAT • ACT • Visit or re-visit colleges during long weekends. • Meet with college representatives visiting your school. • Work on applications.
November • Nov. 1 - First major Early Decision/Early Action application deadline. • Registration deadline for Dec SAT. • Nov. 15 - Second major ED/EA application deadline. • Registration deadline for Dec ACT. • SAT • Narrow college list down to final selections. • Turn in school forms to guidance counseling office. • Pay attention to application deadlines and requirements. • Wrap-up visits and schedule remaining interviews. • Ask a teacher and/or counselor to review your essays.

January • Jan. 1 – Major Regular Decision application deadline. • Jan. 15 – Major Regular Decision application deadline. • Pay attention to application deadlines and requirements. • File all financial aid forms. • Take BB&N exams.
February & March • Enjoy two months with minimal college-related activities.
April • Most admission decisions received this month. • Many opportunities to revisit campuses. • Meet with your guidance counselor to discuss options. • Notify those colleges that you are no longer considering.
May & June • May 1 – deadline to make your final decision. • Notify your accepted college of your enrollment plans. • Speak to your guidance counselor about wait list issues. • Graduation |
