The Almy Library, one of four libraries serving BB&N students, is an open, attractive facility with large windows and varied spaces. It maintains a collection of print and non-print resources chosen to support upper school curriculum, promote research, and encourage reading. The catalog, consisting of 17,000 volumes, is fully automated and available over the web.
The library subscribes to over 100 current periodicals and newspapers. Several online databases give access to many more periodicals, archival records, and other resources, including extensive material on global issues, science, art, history, and biography. The Almy Library provides an area for silent study as well as space where students may study, read or work quietly in small groups. Computers are available not only in the main area, but sit in small study rooms as well. Additional laptops may be borrowed from the library for student use.
In addition to all 9th graders attending a library orientation program, reference librarians are available from 8 AM until 5 PM Monday through Friday. The Quiet Room remains open for study until 7 PM
The Almy Library is a member of MLS-Massachusetts Library Sytem, overseen by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and of the Cooperative Library Association, a consortium of over 40 independent schools throughout eastern Massachusetts. Students have access to the wider holdings in these systems through interlibrary loan
