Each year, we look back on the past year’s Annual Fund and reflect on the results. We count the donors, the volunteers, and the dollars collected to support BB&N’s critical mission of educating our future leaders. By these direct measures, we had an incredible year. In 2009-10, we raised more than $2.4 million in Annual Giving; this is the most the BB&N Annual Fund has ever raised.
Moreover, as we examine more closely beneath this polished surface, I am pleased to report that our Annual Fund donors and volunteers reflect the values that BB&N strives to instill in its school community. It is the intellectual understanding and quality of character in our donor and volunteer community that has enabled the steady growth of our Annual Fund. We are a community of involved learners and compassionate people who embrace the school’s motto: “Honor, Scholarship, Kindness.”
Kindness drives the hours that our volunteers spend reaching out to the community. Kindness underpins those stretch donations that so many give each year. Scholarship enables our volunteers to understand and communicate the Annual Fund message; the message that tuition covers only 80% of the costs of a BB&N education, and that without the critical support of the Annual Fund, BB&N would be a vastly different place. Honor is what our donors show every year, as each one stretches to make that pledge to the Annual Fund, something that each does not because it is required, but because it is the right thing to do.
As I complete a decade of joyous involvement with the Annual Fund, I want to thank each and every one of our thousands of donors and hundreds of volunteers for their essential participation in the BB&N Annual Fund.
