2009-2010 Report of Giving

2009-2010 Fundraising & Development Highlights

Opening Minds Campaign tops $57.9 million in total support for endowment, capital projects, and Annual Giving at the end of the fifth year of the public phase of the Campaign.

Annual Fund raises over $2.4 million, its strongest year ever, thanks to the efforts of nearly 150 dedicated Annual Fund volunteers and over 2,200 generous donors.

Annual Fund parent participation reaches 91%. In addition, the following classes are to be congratulated for attaining 100% participation: Beginners, Kindergarten, and Third Grade.

The Sixth Grade Gift Program and Senior Parent Gift Program each celebrate 100% participation from parents in these grades.

Alumni/ae achieve significant accomplishments in several arenas:

  1. Overall, the Alumni/ae Fund increased from over $529,000 in 2008-09 to more than $677,000 in 2009-10,
    a 28% increase.
  2. Alumni/ae participation reached 25% for the first time in recent history and, as a result, earned an additional $50,000 challenge grant from an anonymous alumnus.
  3. Twenty-five alumni/ae responded to our leadership challenge and give gifts of $1,974 or more for the first time, which enabled the School to receive an additional $25,000 challenge gift.
  4. We also inaugurated our Keystone Society with 20 loyal alumni/ae who gave $10,000 or more to the Annual Fund and are, therefore, at the apex of our fundraising efforts, just as a “keystone” is a critical structural piece at the architectural crown of an arch or bridge.
  5. Reunion giving more than doubled from approximately $83,000 to $172,000, or 25% of the total dollars raised from alumni/ae.
  6. Finally, we had our first “college calling days” and saw participation among our college-age alums increase from less than 10% to an average of 27%.
Class of 2010 Senior Parents raise over $800,000 for faculty endowment, financial aid endowment, annual gifts, and other capital projects, and achieve 100% participation.

Seven new endowed and spendable funds are established to support faculty, financial aid, and academic programs:

  1. John Brisbois 21st Century Library Endowment Fund, established by the Browne & Nichols 50th Reunion
    Class of 1960
  2. Camp Marienfeld Fund
  3. Bertram A. and Ronald M. Druker Foundation Financial Aid Fund
  4. Cary Girod Fund for Environmental Awareness
  5. Jack Knapp Upper School Community Fund
  6. Kargman Family Fund for Faculty Salary Endowment
  7. Leibovitch Faculty Salary Endowment Fund
Strawberry Night welcomes more than 500 alumni/ae, current and former faculty, and friends to campus and begins a new tradition of reunion dinners in classrooms throughout our newly renovated Upper School building.
