Angela, Grade 6![]() “You can join any conversation.” The main thing Angela noticed during her first visit to BB&N, as a prospective sixth grader, was how outgoing and welcoming people were in her grade. Even on the tour she was invited to join a math circle. She is delighted to report that what she saw on the initial tour is the way things really are here every day, and she expects it is the way things will be next year in seventh grade. “Even when we move to the Middle School,” she says with a smile, “it will be the same air around us.” What is this “air?” Angela says it’s the fact that at BB&N you can be an athlete or a musician, and you can be friends with other kids who are neither. “You can join any conversation,” she says. “Unlike my old school, there really isn’t a certain thing kids get pegged as.” Angela is, in fact, both an accomplished musician and an enthusiastic athlete. But, the single talent she feels most proud of is her writing. In Language Arts she wrote a piece about her swim team outside of school. “I wrote about cheering for my teammates, and then they cheered for me. That was when I realized I could do it; I won the race. It felt really good in the writing to let everything out. I basically said, ‘This is who I am.’” Then Angela adds quietly, almost as an afterthought: “I got an ‘A’ on it.” Angela's Activities |
