About the Lower SchoolThe Lower School, for children from Beginners (pre-Kindergarten) through Grade 6, combines building-block fundamentals with an emphasis on creativity and exploration. Students find challenge and support in a three-acre, nine-building campus “village” full of kid energy, a short walk from Harvard Square. We teach to each child and to the whole child, to help them learn and grow during the most important developmental stages of their lives.
Magnus, Grade 4Magnus and his Math Olympics group waste no time getting started. His posture is all eagerness, first leaning far over the table on his elbows to share an idea, then shifting to kneel on his stool, a high vantage point needed for the next problem. More
Angela, Grade 6Angela says that at BB&N you can be an athlete or a musician, and you can be friends with other kids who are neither. “You can join any conversation,” she says. More

Lower School AdmissionThere is no single BB&N "type," and we think that's one of our strengths. Students come here with a wide range of talents and interests, from neighborhoods throughout the Greater Boston area, and from a diverse range of racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. What they have in common is a genuine curiosity about the world around them and an eagerness to learn.
