“Lemonade Mouth” Author Visits Middle School

“Which sentence is more interesting to you?” asked young-adult novelist Mark Peter Hughes to a captive audience of more than 50 Middle Schoolers during his recent visit to BB&N.

 “Justin jumped off a cliff.” Or, “Justin Bieber jumped off a cliff.”

 The laughter that rocked the room clearly proclaimed the latter.

Hip Hop Dance and African Drumming Propel Middle Schoolers into Spring Break

It’s not always a good idea to supply students with drums, shakers, and cowbells for a performance on the Friday before March break, but the intrepid faculty at the Middle School had faith in their pupils to rein in that pre-vacation excitement. And a rousing yet studied performance of African Gahu (ga-hoo) music was the payoff.

Seventh and Eighth Graders Have a Ball with First-Ever Shakespeare Collaboration

“I love thee not, therefore pursue me not!” Taj strutted across the stage with Lindsay trailing close behind him. “You draw me you hard-hearted adamant . . .” she whined. Both eighth graders were dressed in full Renaissance regalia. Taj’s oversized cap almost whipped off his head as he swung around with his retort. “Do I entice you? Do I speak you fair?”

The ten seventh graders in the Latin class file one by one into the room. They drop their heavy backpacks down and take their seats. The lunch break is over, and they don’t look quite ready to relinquish it. They chat a bit, and the boys playfully throw an elbow here and there as they fish their Latin notebooks and pencils out of their overstuffed bags....

MS Performers Delight Audience with "Guys and Dolls"

The Big Room on the Sparks Street campus was recently transformed into early 1950’s New York City for the Middle School performance of Guys and Dolls. The students took on the characters of gangsters, gamblers, missionary workers, and lounge singers in this wonderful rendition of Abe Burrow & Jo Swerling’s renowned musical.
