This year Cinco de Mayo marked the date of the 61st annual BB&N Circus.  For over six decades now the Circus has been offering family fun to students, parents, and alums of all ages and this year was no different.

Lower & Middle School Students Make Strides to End Hunger

On Sunday, May 6 over 40,000 people gathered in the Boston Common for the 44th annual Walk for Hunger. BB&N Lower and Middle School students were part of that crowd, having rised over $5,000 for the event.

Anne Mackay: Turning on the Light for BB&N’s Youngest Readers

Anne Mackay never takes reading for granted. As a Lower School reading specialist she has spent five days a week for the past seven years coaxing words out of Morse Building students’ mouths one syllable at a time. If it sounds repetitive, that’s sort of the point.

Sixth Grade Travels the Globe in Spring Musical

BB&N sixth graders tackled The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jr. for their spring performance this year. The story tells the tale of Stanley Lambchop’s desire to “travel the world, doing amazing things.” He makes a wish on a falling star and, after some help from his bulletin board, suddenly finds himself flat. Taking advantage of the situation, Stanley uses the US Postal service to mail himself to such places as Hollywood, Paris, and Honolulu.

“Debbie and Friends” Bring Music to Lower School

Morse Building students were treated to the musical magic of kids’ group Debbie and Friends this week. In an interactive show featuring stories, videos, audience participation, and of course music, Debbie and Friends had students grinning and singing for the entirety of their 40 minute set.

The Hunger Games has become a hot topic with regards to what is “too much” or “over the top” for young readers and viewers. Lower School librarian Heather Lee saw it all coming two years ago when she first read The Hunger Games, and checks in now with a few thoughts.

Elka Rifkin Announced as Next Lower School Director

BB&N is pleased to announce the appointment of Elka Rifkin as the next Director of the Lower School. Rifkin is a widely respected educator with more than 30 years of experience in early childhood, elementary, and middle school teaching, program design, and administration.

Fourth Grade Gets Energized with Solar-Powered Cars

Late last fall, fourth graders at BB&N spent some time during social studies exploring the impact we all have on our environment. Students learned about pollution and discussed ways to help such problems. While all of these discussions took place in homeroom, in science class the students were presented with demonstrations about alternative energies as a solution to the environmental problems of the world.
