Jazz Teacher’s Album Named to Best of 2011 List
Unbeknownst to many, BB&N’s Renaissance Hall harbors a secret: one of contemporary jazz’s finest pianists, Pandelis Karayorgis. Karayorgis’ latest album, System of 5, features eight original compositions arranged by the Upper and Middle School jazz teacher for his nationally lauded Karayorgis Quintet.
In his more than 20-year career as a musician, the modest teacher-by-day is no stranger to praise, and in a recent article, Chicagoreader.com music critic Peter Margasak suggests that System of 5 “may just be Karayorgis’ high-water mark thus far.” Margasak lists the record as one of his top 20 albums of 2011, describing Karayorgis as “one of jazz's best and most underrated pianists.”
