Upper School student musicians wowed the audience at the annual Spring Concert held at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton recently. BB&N’s community service project, “Hand & Heart Charity Auction,” was recently selected to receive the Parents’ Independent School Network (PIN) Special Recognition Award. The organization, consisting of parent members from 70 New England independent schools, cited Hand & Heart as a sterling example of a creative, student-driven initiative that “contributes to the greater good.” More
BB&N sixth graders tackled The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jr. for their spring performance this year. The story tells the tale of Stanley Lambchop’s desire to “travel the world, doing amazing things.” He makes a wish on a falling star and, after some help from his bulletin board, suddenly finds himself flat. Taking advantage of the situation, Stanley uses the US Postal service to mail himself to such places as Hollywood, Paris, and Honolulu. More
Walt McGough’s play Priscilla Dreams the Answer includes the following ingredients: two telepathic aliens, one uber-empathetic girl, one game show contestant savant, one ageless war veteran, and the fate of the planet hanging in the balance. More
Morse Building students were treated to the musical magic of kids’ group Debbie and Friends this week. In an interactive show featuring stories, videos, audience participation, and of course music, Debbie and Friends had students grinning and singing for the entirety of their 40 minute set. More

It’s not always a good idea to supply students with drums, shakers, and cowbells for a performance on the Friday before March break, but the intrepid faculty at the Middle School had faith in their pupils to rein in that pre-vacation excitement. During the Upper School Winter performance of Do I Hear a Waltz?, the actors spoke such wonderful Italian, as well as English with Italian accents, that the audience felt as though they were practically in Italy. Set in Venice in 1964, the Arthur Laurents play tells the story of Leona Samish, a single, middle-aged woman in search of romance, and who hopes to find it on her trip to Italy. More
