Faculty Challenge Stimulates Increased Giving to Opening Minds Campaign

Responding to a recently announced Faculty Challenge, a number of leadership donors have stepped forward this fall to help achieve the Opening Minds Campaign goal of raising $12 million in endowment for BB&N’s talented and dedicated faculty.

A $2 million challenge pool will be used to match all new gifts of $100,000 or more on a 1-for-2 basis (i.e., a $100,000 gift will generate an additional $50,000 from the Challenge Pool). When both the pool and matching funds are received, BB&N will have raised an additional $6 million for endowed faculty support.

Joan and David Rosenberg (P ’20), were among the early supporters of the Faculty Challenge.  “We hope that our participation in this initiative will motivate others to respond now, while this challenge opportunity is available.”

The $6 million Faculty Challenge has two components, a “Master Teachers Initiative” and a “Future Leaders Initiative.”  The former seeks to fund at least three Senior Faculty Chairs, one on each campus, at a cost of $1.25 million each. The latter seeks to fund an Endowed Instructorship Program to recognize the special contributions that promising mid-career faculty have made to the School community.

This important Faculty Challenge has a deadline though—gifts to establish the pool must be received by December 31, 2007, and matching gifts by December 31, 2008.

As of November 1, the Challenge Pool had reached $1 million toward its $2 million goal, with an additional $550,000 received in qualifying matching gifts. For more information and to participate in this special Challenge, contact Woodie Haskins at woodie_haskins@bbns.org or 617-800-2720.
