Messages, Mentoring & Modeling
Communicating with students about issues of relationships, sexuality, love and heartbreak

Please join us for a discussion about the sexual and emotional development of young people and the role of trusted adults in the process. This interactive seminar will touch on topics such as how adults transfer messages about sexuality & relationships; how we model behaviors that promote healthy development and how we can create a safe environment for all of our children to learn.

Cindy Telingator, MD, completed her adult psychiatry training and child and adolescent psychiatry training at Cambridge Health Alliance in 1994. Since that time she has worked at Cambridge Hospital in various roles, and since 2000 she has been the training director of the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program. She has also maintained a private practice in Central Square in Cambridge since 1994 where she sees adults, adolescents and children. This winter, during Mud Week (no Sports), US students will be provided the opportunity to participate in an afternoon of community service with their peers.  It is a lot of fun and a great way for students to learn about local organizations where they can make a difference.  Last fall, over 90 students shared their time and talents with others on Community Service Afternoon.  Students will leave from campus after dismissal and return to campus in the late afternoon.  Sign-up sheets will be posted in the academic building beginning the week of February 20th.  Permission slips will be available at school and are due back by Monday, February 27th.  Some of the past participating organizations include: Cradles to Crayons, Youville House, Habitat/Mass Audubon Society, West End House, and Our House.  Please encourage your child to grab a friend and sign-up! Students will be awarded 3 hours of community service credit for this work.

Finally, we will need some chaperones/drivers for the event.  If you are available to drive and/or chaperone on Wednesday, February 29th from 1:00pm - 5:00pm, please contact Amy Sucoff to volunteer.

If you have any questions, please contact Faculty Community Service Coordinator Gabriela Gozenbach or parent organizers Amy Sucoff, or Peggy Fenchak Fitzgerald.
