Faculty Challenge Launched to Sustain Excellence in Teaching
To support the $12 million faculty endowment goal of the Opening Minds Campaign, several generous donors have made commitments to help create a $2 million challenge pool that will be used to match all new gifts of $100,000 or more on a 1 for 2 basis. (e.g., a $100,000 gift will generate an additional $50,000 from the Challenge pool). When both the pool and matching funds are received, BB&N will have received $6 million to add to funds already raised toward the $12 million goal for endowed faculty support.
Like the original $10 million challenge gift which launched the Campaign in 2003 and was successfully met within its three-year timeline, this Faculty Challenge has a deadline. Gifts to establish the pool must be received by December 31, 2007, and matching gifts by December 31, 2008.
The $6 million Faculty Challenge has two components. The “Master Teachers Initiative” seeks to fund at least three Senior Faculty Chairs, one on each campus, at a cost of $1.25 million each. By establishing the School's first fully endowed faculty chairs, BB&N will gain a tangible way to celebrate the outstanding dedication and talent of our finest teachers.
Additionally, the “Future Leaders Initiative” seeks to fund an Endowed Instructorship Program to recognize the special contributions that promising mid-career faculty have made to the School community. To implement such a program that is equitable across our three campuses, we seek to establish a minimum of six Instructorships, two on each campus, at a cost of $500,000 each.
