Upper School Visual Arts
Imagine your excitement at making your first turned bowl from birdseye maple
on a lathe, or printing in the darkroom a professional level enlargement of the
photograph you took of the Lenny Zakim bridge. Imagine putting what you learned
about color interaction to work in on a self-portrait in acrylic, or seeing your
multi-glazed sculpture emerge from the kilns.
The Visual arts program at BB&N encourages you to engage fully in the discoveries
and rewards of art making. Novices and experienced art students alike find that
our courses delight and stretch them. The studios are lively, congenial places
to learn about yourself, the medium you are studying, and the power of art. All
of our arts faculty are practicing artists as well as warm, gifted teachers with
years of experience.
BB&N’s urban location makes it easy for arts classes to visit museums and
galleries in the greater Boston area. The Museum of Fine Arts, with whom we
have an on-going collaboration, is just fifteen minutes away. Our AP Art History
class, taken by seniors, visits the museum every week so students can study art
with the originals before them.
At BB&N, students who have always loved art can take their work to surprising
new levels, and students who never thought of themselves as artists have their
eyes opened.
