PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Trentwell "Pete" White '50

Current job: National-Louis University; planning and coordinating professional development
Previous positions: Naval Officer (22 years); worked for a government consulting company; Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce; Northern Virginia Community College

A 1950 graduate of the Hallowed Halls on the Charles, after meandering through college(s) and clearly headed for a career as an educator (following in Dad's footsteps), I undertook a short stint as a naval officer which unexpectedly lengthened slightly into a thoroughly enjoyable 22-year career. Thereupon, I stumbled into a mini-career working with a major government consulting company from which, suffering intense boredom, I took an "early" retirement 11 years later and then magically was transformed into a small business expert working with the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. Having "been there, done that," five years later, I then was asked by Northern Virginia Community College to establish and manage an off-campus classroom facility and market training (mostly IT) to the business community. Five years later (do you see a pattern emerging?), I shifted gears and jobs to a state-funded non-profit and assisted in placement of IT graduates with area employers. Thence to the local tech council, doing same for a federal grant, thence to my current job (part time) with National-Louis University, mostly planning and coordinating professional development, including job fairs, for students and grads in the DC area. To occupy my copious spare time, have two other part-time jobs and have just been contacted by the local Workforce Board to see if I can help them in employer and veteran outreach. Then there're my seven llamas (recent birth in March) and my wife's hobby of Standard Schnauzer showing and breeding. The beat goes on...

Current job: International Education Consultant
College: Swarthmore College
Post-graduate work: The Fletcher School at Tufts University and the London School of Economics
Previous positions: US Department of Education and Department of State; Committee International Exchange of Scholars

Ann Imlah Schneider '51 retired in 1995 after 25 years with the U.S. Department of Education and six with the State Department (as well as time working on the senior Fulbright program and with the American Friends Service Committee). She had been a senior program officer for the Education Department's grants in international education and is now an independent consultant, doing program evaluations and providing ( U.S. ) universities with advice on internationalization of the undergraduate curriculum. She has also worked on three research projects, the first being an evaluation of the long term impact of Title VI (of the Higher Education Act) grants to encourage undergraduate international studies programs. The second project resulted in a report, “Internationalizing Teacher Education: What can be done?” which focuses on the undergraduate training of secondary school teachers, and the third (currently in progress) continues the project, with a focus on the elementary level.
