Applying to the Lower School B-6

BB&N’s Lower School welcomes applications for all grades from Beginners (pre-Kindergarten) through Grade 6. Students may apply for any grade, though Beginners and Grade 6 are the most common entry points and have the largest number of openings.

Beginners must have turned 4 years old by the time they start school in September; Kindergartners must be at least 5 years old.

Parents of Lower School (grades B-4) applicants should schedule a parents/guardians interview and tour in the fall or early winter. An applicant evaluation visit will then be scheduled. Grade 5 and 6 applicants and their families visit BB&N for a tour and an interview with a member of the Admission Committee sometime during the fall or early winter. The ISEE or SSAT is also required and should be taken before January 15.

You can download an application by clicking on the appropriate link in the sidebar, or call the Admissions Office to receive one in the mail. The written application includes information from parents, grade-appropriate school and teacher reports from the student’s current school, and personal recommendations.

We base admissions decisions on a number of criteria, including a child’s interests and abilities, previous school record (if any), motivation for learning, and potential for succeeding at BB&N.

Once accepted, your child will not need to reapply to BB&N's Middle and Upper Schools.

Deadline: The written application form and a required parent interview and tour must be completed by January 15, 2009. See other key dates in the sidebar at right.
