Graduation 2017 Information
Friday, June 9 in the Etter Gymnasium, Nicholas Athletic Center at 10:00 a.m.
Graduation typically lasts 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hours. There will be a light reception afterwards, but not a full meal. We hope that the timing will allow you to make family plans or restaurant reservations easily.
Guests & Seating
We ask you to limit your guest list to 8 – 10 people, although there will be room for some larger groups. (This number does not include your senior!) There are no tickets, nor do we take names of your guests.
Each family will receive a formal invitation in the mail in early May. We will have additional invitations that you can send to family and friends either as invitations or announcements. Just let your child know how many you need (10 max.) and have him or her pick them up from Mrs. Makrauer in Room 139.
If you have members of your family who need special seating consideration or who need handicap parking, please call Samantha Siegel at 617-800-2733 (after May 1). Handicapped parking is limited.
Seniors should be at the gym no later than 9:00 a.m. for the class photograph and to line up for the procession. We will not hold the picture for latecomers.
We ask the boys to wear a suit or sports jacket, tie and slacks, and dress shoes with dress socks. Girls are asked to wear white or ivory. Dresses or pantsuits are fine, and should be appropriate to a ceremonial occasion attended by more than a thousand guests.
The Parent Reps, on behalf of all of the senior parents, will have flowers for each senior.
We strongly urge you to park across the river in the DCR lots, rather than dangerously along the side of Greenough Boulevard. To make this more convenient for you, the school shuttles will be making continuous roundtrips from the lot on Soldiers’ Field Road (marked Lot 4 – opposite the WBZ tower) to the Nicholas Athletic Center beginning at 7:45 a.m. The return trips will begin after the ceremony and reception.
Pierre Chiha, the photographer who took the fall senior portraits, will take a picture of each student as s/he receives the diploma from Ms. Upham. He will also take a class picture just before the class lines up for the Graduation procession and an individual photo when the seniors assemble in the tennis courts. The class picture will be taken promptly at 9:05 a.m. We will not be able to wait for latecomers. During the graduation ceremony the area in front of the stage is reserved for official photographers. Parents are welcome to take pictures from the sides, but we ask that you do not position yourselves in front of the stage as it obstructs the paths of the seniors and slows the proceedings.
