Special Programs - Senior Spring Project

Every senior at BB&N designs his or her own program of studies and activities to take place during the spring term before graduation. Each is responsible for forty hours per week of approved and supervised activities. Some seniors choose to continue courses or to pursue an independent study with a BB&N faculty member. Many seniors include hours of internship away from our campus at sites ranging from the Aquarium and the Museum of Fine Arts to the Cambridge public schools, Children's Hospital, and the Good News Garage. The planning process usually takes place during the first semester and must be completed by mid January. The spring project faculty committee reads and approves (or adjusts) each senior's proposed project to ensure the integrity and legitimacy of the final weeks of senior year. Staring In April each senior then meets with a chosen faculty member once a week to review and discuss his or her project.

Senior Spring Project provides students the chance to take responsibility for themselves, use their skills, even try something new, while still under supervision of the BB&N faculty. We hope that they will gain a deeper appreciation of their own talents and an increased sense of the importance of working with and learning from others. It is an additional opportunity to learn that there are many things worth doing for which they will not receive a grade or a salary.
