Library
The Almy Library, one of four libraries serving BB&N students, is an open, attractive facility with large windows and varied spaces. It maintains a collection of print and non-print resources chosen to support upper school curriculum, promote research, and encourage reading. The catalog of 15,000+ volumes, is fully automated and available over the web.
The library subscribes to over 100 current periodicals and newspapers, and owns a large microfiche collection. Several online databases give access to many more periodicals and back issues, including extensive material on art, poetry, historic newspapers, and biography. The Almy Library provides an area for silent study as well as space where students may study, read or work quietly in small groups. Computers are available not only in the main area, but sit in a small study room as well. Additional laptops may be borrowed for use in the library.
In addition to all 9th graders attending a library orientation program, a reference librarian is available from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Quiet Room remains open for study until 7:00 p.m.
The Almy Library is a member of Metrowest, the state regional system, and of CLASS, a consortium of 17 independent schools in the Boston/Worcester area. Students may borrow from the wider holdings in these systems through interlibrary loan.
