Technology
The use of computers in the Lower School support and enhance the curriculum. We believe that computer use is most effective when integrated throughout the curriculum.
- Programs are developmentally appropriate
- They are directly related to classroom content
- Offer students and teachers new ways of looking at the traditional curriculum
- Encourage thinking and stimulate inquiry
- Foster collaboration and communication
- Challenge and motivate a wide range of students
Dana Wireless - These durable, easy to operate, one-piece computers are being used in some English and Foreign Language classes at the Lower School to put the power of word processing into the hands of the 5th and 6th grade students. Documents can be typed or written with a stylus pen, similar to using a Palm Pilot. Then the documents can be transmitted to the teacher or another student for review or collaboration. Computers are located in each homeroom, the science classroom, and the library, as well as in both computer laboratories. Internet safety strategies are explained and reinforced.
