About BB&N

Welcome to the vibrant, engaging, and generous world of BB&N. Here you will discover the excitement, challenge, and energy that are uniquely ours - and an environment that encourages risk and rewards exploration. The diversity of BB&N nurtures a compelling atmosphere of profound and lasting growth. Here, differences are valued, the less-familiar voice is heard, the unknown is embraced.

BB&N 2007-2008 Program Diversity Guide (PDF)

BB&N has the distinction of being the only pre-kindergarten (or as we say, Beginners) through grade twelve school in the greater Boston area. To us, that is an important reminder that what we do at BB&N is truly unique. It means that we understand the delicate balance between nurture and challenge, trust and risk, success and growth. Because each campus is designed to be both age and developmentally appropriate for students at each juncture of their academic careers, the three have their own distinct personalities that shine through as all reach for the common goals of honor, scholarship and kindness.

Rebecca T. Upham, Head of School

"School ought to be a place where children discover the things that make their hearts leap, and where they absorb values, skills, and standards they can build their lives around. But there also needs to be time for them to lie back in a field and find stories in the shapes of clouds." - Rebecca T. Upham, Head of School

Three Campuses - One School

The Lower School: Turn-of-the-century houses are juxtaposed with light-filled modern structures. This is symbolic of BB&N's traditional yet innovative approach to education. Brick paths connect more than buildings and playgrounds - they connect the energy of students, teachers, and families with a collective joy of discovery.

The Middle School: A safe haven for twelve-year olds leaving the comfort of their elementary school experience, and a forum for fourteen-year-olds trying out their new young adult personae. It is both an incubator and a springboard.

The Upper School: Opportunities for exploration abound - from journeying into intellectual outer limits to testing the waters of team sports to leaping into the dramatic unknown of the stage. Students can be who they are, and become who they were meant to be.
