Rebecca T. Upham Biography

Rebecca T. Upham is Head of School at Buckingham Browne and Nichols in Cambridge Massachusetts. Ms. Upham was born in Washington, D.C. and educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, Middlebury College, and Columbia University. She first taught at the White Mountain School in New Hampshire before spending eight years as a Science Teacher and then Assistant Head at The Branson School in Ross, California. In 1992 Ms. Upham was named head of the Ellis School in Pittsburgh, PA, where she stayed for ten years before assuming her present position as Head of BB&N in 2001.
Recipient of a Klingenstein Fellowship at Columbia University and Pittsburgh’s YWCA Woman of the Year in Education, she has served on many civic and professional boards. She was a founding member of Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME); and is currently on the Board of Directors for Country Day School Headmasters Association as well as the Educational Records Bureau. Married to Will Viner, a computer specialist with PPG, she is an avid climber who has participated on international expeditions to Greenland and the Himachal Pradesh in India. She also enjoys reading and travel. |
