Navajo Dance Group Visits Lower School
“Yá'át'ééh abíní, or in English, good morning,” says Navajo Teacher, Shawna Becenti addressing students from the Lower School Morse building. Becenti and her Navajo dance troupe Twilight Teachings recently performed at the LS, introducing students to the dynamic Navajo culture.

The group spoke about their customs and entertained students with a variety of traditional Navajo songs, dances, and even some tantalizing Navajo string art. The troupe members, who where traveling from their home state of New Mexico for the first time, relished the opportunity to experience the east coast and share their culture.
“We feel so much love in our hearts for our families, so we sing about them,” said Becenti , explaining the importance of family in her culture. Clearly that sentiment resonated with the audience, as BB&N students waved their hands furiously in hopes of being chosen to join in and dance along.
