BB&N LS Students Sweep State Scholastic Chess Championships
In what is becoming a trend of excellence, BB&N’s Lower School chess teams posted another great finish in the 2008 Massachusetts State Scholastic Championships, sweeping the competition in both the Elementary (K-6), and Primary (K-3) categories.
Nearly 200 youngsters comprising 46 teams from around the state competed in the day-long tournament at Natick High School on March 30. When the action had ended and all moves were exhausted, it was the two teams from BB&N who were left standing.
The K-6 champions made up of Zachary Lovett P ’14, Bunnard Phan ’14, Darrith Phan ’15, and Nicholas Trieu ’14, were held to a draw in the first round but shifted gears over the rest of their matches to beat out Bridge Elementary School in Lexington by three points.
BB&N’s K-3 team allowed spectators to breathe more easily as they coasted to a dominant 4-0 victory. This impressive performance featured the chess work of Issay Matsumoto ’17, Will Nemirovsky ’17, Max Wiegand ’17, and Tristan Young ’17.
