The Middle School

A big, comfortable Victorian house nestled in one of Cambridge's beautiful neighborhoods, the Middle School campus is an open and relaxed setting where the mind is stretched and character developed. Here students can exercise all of their talents and uncover new ones. They begin to make their own choices, take on more responsibilities, and see themselves as part of the exciting world that's opening up all around them.

We realize students will need to risk and try new opportunities at the Middle School, not only to give them the confidence in particular areas of strength, but to hone and nurture an attitude of assuredness that comes in doing ones' best, regardless of the task. Students emerge from their years at the Middle School with confidence and spunk, ready to meet the challenges ahead.

An integral part of the Middle School program, the Co-curriculum includes core programs taught by advisors on such topics as group dynamics, communication, current events and social issues. The goals of the program include: to prepare students to participate meaningfully in an increasingly complex and diverse world; to teach students how to handle conflict, ask evocative questions, and advocate for themselves; and to prepare students for healthy living and an understanding of the value of nutrition and exercise.

QUOTES

“Because the Middle School is just 7th and 8th Grade, it's really our school. No one feels they have to act older to impress the seniors. It's a really accepting place.”
-Middle School student

“If you're a 6th Grader looking for a new school, there's something for you to be good at here. It's a warm community where you can't really go wrong.”
-Middle School student

“At 12, 13, 14, kids have more energy than they'll ever have again in their lives. Get them interested in your subject, and you get all that energy to go with you instead of the other way.”
-Middle School teacher
